adding a lining

[info]geobabe posting in [info]sew_hip
Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I've never added a lining to a garment before and could use some pointers.

I want to line a pair of wool pants that I am currently working on. When I'm cutting out the lining, should I make it the exact size and shape of the outer layer (without pockets and other details)? Or do I need to modify it in any way? I know I will want to hem it a tiny bit shorter, and I won't cut a waistband. I am planning on attaching the lining to the waistband facing, and slipstiching it to the back zipper, which the directions say to do for the facing. Does that sound about right?

If it makes a difference, I'm making view A of this pattern.

Turning to photography as a creative outlet during a valiant fight with breast cancer at age 34, [info]renaissance10 survived and set up a photo contest to help raise funds for the Lavender Trust, a nonprofit that provides information and support to younger women with breast cancer. In the first two years, the competition brought in over £65,000 (that's $107,260.73 U.S.!), with entries from 130 countries last year. Renaissance10 recently joined LiveJournal to meet other passionate photographers and find supportive friends.

new sewing machine!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I got a new (used) sewing machine for christmas. The problem is, it did not come with the manual. I am trying to find the manual to purchase online, but I don't know what specific machine I have. It says Husqvarna Viking, and then on the gold thing on the bottom right it says "300" and on the top left it says "Embroidery".

I've tried googling endlessly and I'm only finding the model "Scandinavia" that has 300 along with it but it doesn't look like my machine. Halp??!

here is what it looks like: http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs213.snc3/22059_650808063467_20602128_37744317_7717184_n.jpg

Hello everyone
My name is Johanna and I am a 19 years-old girl from Munich, Germany.
I love a japanese band called Kanjani8. They've sneaked into every corner of my room. Not in the creepy, over-the-top way though
And this would be my room:

Welcome to my room!

Hi all!
I'm so glad I found this community :)

Well anyways, I plan on redecorating my room to look more antique-ey,goth/victorian :)

I would like to stick with blacks off whites and teals/turqouise colors, BUT I cannot paint my walls due to me living in an apartment.

I can put shelving up though :)

So any good ideas or refrences you can show me? And good places to go to get little nick naks? (Besides the local antique store ;p)

I will be going to a local craft/fabric store called hobby lobby as the have amazing fabric there for curtains :)

Any help would be appreciated!

P.S.-if this is too long, lemme know and I'll attempt to make a cut :)

I just recieved a sewing machine after following this community and getting many great ideas of what to do with it.  However in playing around with it, I popped the bobbin case out with the bobbin, and now can't get it back in.  I've already tried the instruction manual and google, neither of which helped (bad descriptions, or ones that didn't work).

Does anyone know how to insert the bobbin case on a singer 4228?

Edit:  I just got it !! (two days and much frustration later)  For anyone in the future, there is a black metal plate on the right....the bobbin case rests on TOP of this, don't try to go under it!!

Thanks for the help!

My name is Victoria. I am a transfer student, originally from Alabama but I moved to a school in Northeast Georgia. This is the first time I lived on campus, and so the pictures are from the first few days I was there. The room was moved about 3 times since then but I have no pictures. :[ It looks pretty plain but I was sharing a room with someone so I kept a lot of stuff at home. Next semester I will be here again posting new pictures of my own room and (so far) my own bathroom.

My Dorm Room )

I also have a question/request. I was wanting to do my poloroids and some fun pictures I found online, hung up with clothespins. It's a dumb question but how do I keep the clothes pins from scrunching together if the string curves down? (I hope someone understands what I am saying.) I was also wanting to see people post pictures if they have the photo-clothespin in their room. Thanks in advance! :]

I was wondering what your favorite jewelry stands or wall mounts are, and where from! I'm trying to decide if I should buy one or make one.

related to that, if I were to make one, I want to use this mirror that I have in my room. the frame's made of wood that I want to paint white, what kind of paint would I use for that? if I bought chicken wire or something similar, could I just staplegun it to the back of the frame or would I need to do something different? and a picture, so you can see what I'm working with!

Fabric Help!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So with my last project (which I will post pictures of eventually!) I learned to work with silk chiffon. I know I have a long way to go to really being good with the fabric, but I love it! For my next major project I want to work with chiffon more.

Illustration! )

I know the skirt will be made out of chiffon for sure. But the top is kind of up in the air. I know I need something that will hold structure. And what about the strands. What material can I use to make them? They don't need to hold structure, but I was intending on tying knots in whatever fabric I choose to create the web effect.

Bed frame help

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
All the furniture in my room is white except for my bedframe which is a cherry wood type thing. It drives me insane. I really wanted the Aneboda frame from IKEA but of course they don't ship and there are no IKEA's around here. Has anyone seen something similar for around the same price (under $150) that will ship (I'm in the US)? My bed is a full if that helps. I already checked Ebay and Craigslit to no avail. :(
